Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 018 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1101(o)(4)(ii): For Class III and IV asbestos work, the competent person was not trained in aspects of asbestos handling appropriate for the nature of the work, to include procedures for setting up glove bags and mini-enclosures, practices for reducing asbestos exposures, use of wet methods, the contents of this standard, and the identification of asbestos: At a worksite located 3119 to 3123 (Shankman Building) and 3125-3133 (Michaelson Building), Kansas City, MO 64109: Employees were exposed to asbestos containing materials. The employer failed to ensure that they or their designee were competent and properly trained on components of Class III and IV asbestos work. This was demonstrated when employees were allowed to work in areas of asbestos containing materials and were not told about the areas, provided any method to reducing exposure, or wet methods when performing light demolition.
