Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.502(d)(16)(iii): Personal fall arrest systems, when stopping a fall, were not rigged such that an employee could not free fall more than 6 feet (1.8 m) nor contact any lower level: a) On or about August 8, 2018, an employee fell 14 feet while working on the roof truss of a residential house. The worker was using a personal fall arrest system and lanyard connected to a rope that was installed on a truss 14 feet away. The rope used on the personal fall arrest system had excessive horizontal length that would not stop the employee in the event of a fall. The roof truss collapsed causing the worker to fall to the floor and suffered a broken left tibia.
