29 CFR 1910.147(d)(1): Preparation for shutdown. Before an authorized or affected employee turns off a machine or equipment, the authorized employee shall have knowledge of the type and magnitude of the energy, the hazards of the energy to be controlled, and the method or means to control the energy. a. On or about May 16, 2018 at the site located at 3300 Stelzer Road in Columbus, Ohio, the employer did not ensure that HVAC service employees knew of the methods/means to control the kinetic energy in the form of air flowing through ducts. An employee was injured when air flowing through a duct caused a supply fan to start spinning while it was being serviced.
