Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): Point(s) of operation of machinery were not guarded to prevent employee(s) from having any part of their body in the danger zone(s) during operating cycle(s): The employer is failing to protect employees from the hazards associated with lacerations, broken bones and amputations. During the drilling of holes in a steel bar, employees are exposed to unguarded rotating drill bits on the drill presses. This allows employees to contact the rotating drill shafts and injured by the drill bits with the employees hands in the point of operation. This was most recently documented at 4160 Gold Core Rd., Grand Island, Nebraska on or about January 8, 2018 when an employee contacted the rotating drill bit of the drill press resulting in the amputation of their fingers.
