Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1915.117(b): Employees who did not understand the signs, notices, and operating instructions, and were not familiar with the signal code in use, were allowed to operate a crane, winch, or other power operated hoisting apparatus. a) A rigging supervisor who was not trained, qualified or authorized by the employer to operate cranes, did so resulting in injury to both himself and another employee working at the direction of the supervisor. The supervisor had received 30-Hour training from an outside Safety Consulting Company contracted by the employer in the following subject matter: GENERAL CRANE SAFETY TRAINING WORKSHOP, QUALIFIED RIGGER TRAINING WORKSHOP, CRANE SIGNAL PERSON SAFETY TRAINING WORKSHOP. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.
