Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.304(f): All woodworking tools and machinery did not meet other applicable requirements of American National Standards Institute, 01.1-1961, Safety Code for Woodworking Machinery. 80 William St, Worcester, MA On November 3, 2017 and at times prior, the employer did not comply with two requirements of ANSI 01.1-1961 paragraph 7, Operating Rules: a) 7.2.6 Combs (featherboards) or suitable jigs were not provided at the workplace for use when a standard guard cannot be used, as in dadoing, grooving, jointing, moulding, and rabbeting. On November 3, 2017, an employee received a fingertip injury when performing a grooving cut on a table saw without guards, featherboards or suitable jigs. b) 7.5 The employer did not provide careful instructions in the hazards of each machine and the safe method of operation before an inexperienced employee was permitted to operate any woodworking machine. On November 3, 2017, an employee was injured while making a free-hand, non-through cut on a Ryobi table saw. The employee had not been instructed on the specific safety operating rules in the manufacturer's manual for the table saw. The manual specifically required operators to "always use push blocks, push sticks, and featherboards when making non-through cuts to avoid serious injury."
