Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: OTHER
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to collapsing wooden trusses. C.H. Booth Public Library Construction Site: On or about 12 September 1996, the wooden trusses installed between columns 11 and 12 collapsed onto a construction worker. The temporary bracing installed did not provide sufficient support to the trusses and the trusses were not adequately secured to the metal beams. Feasible methods of abatement for temporary bracing of trusses are outlined in the Truss Plate Institute Booklet HIB-91 and in the HIB-91 Summary Sheet.
