Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about July 10, 1995, employees who were unfamiliar with the operation of the machinery, were exposed to crushing hazards created between the downender and the turnstile while transferring metal coils in the "auto cycle"mode. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: train employees in the safe operation of machinery including the function and operation of all controls, hazards associated with operation of the machinery, and specific safety precautions to be taken when working with the machinery.s
