Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: CAUGHT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or servious physical harm to employees in that; a)On or about June 7, 1996, an employee was exposed to a "caught by" hazard when he used the maintenance walkway of a 45-ton Zenar overhead bridge crane as a mobile work platform. The employee was installing wiring conduits in the south end of the Jorden Room at the Riverside paper Mill in Savannah, GA. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is the use of mobile elevating aerial work platforms when employees are required to install conduits or perform other above grade work.
