Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling trusses: a) On August 21, 2007, employees working on the roof and inside of the fitness center building on Lawrence Drive were exposed to the hazard of truss collapse due to the lack of adequate diagonal truss bracing. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard would be to: Comply with the October, 2006 Building Component Safety Information Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining, and Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses: " It is critical to note that all lateral restraint must be stabilized by diagonal bracing installed in the same plane. Lateral restraint by itself is not adequate without the added rigidity of triangulation from the diagonal bracing." No Abatement Certification or Abatement Documentation required.tion
