Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
The following item(s), as described in the attached citation, is (are) amended as follows. Citation 1 Item 1 - Changed to Section 17 unclassified Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about August 2, 1995, employees at the Sun Oil refinery in Oregon, Ohio, were exposed to the hazard of being struck by high pressure water when hydroblasting (2) inch diameter vertical poly casings in Plant 8-R-853 and not protected from the removal of the hose from the tubes. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazardous condition would be to provide a device the hose passes through which is secured to the line being cleaned and prevents the nozzle from exiting the line.
