Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.29(f)(3): Handrails and stair rail systems were not smooth-surfaced to protect employees from injury, such as punctures or lacerations, and to prevent catching or snagging of clothing; The employer is failing to protect employees from lacerations and abrasions hazards. This was most recently documented on February 7, 2017 at the Wyss Tank Battery located on the South East corner of the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Road 357, South West of Trenton Nebraska. The employer is failing to ensure that the stair rail system had hand rails constructed of a smooth-surface. Employees accessed tank battery hatches to gauge tanks via a fabricated stair system, equipped with hand rails fabricated from 90 degree angled steel. The angled steel had holes along the entire hand rail surface. This condition exposed employees to lacerations and abrasion hazards.
