Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.55(b): Feasible administrative or engineering controls were not implemented to reduce employee exposure(s) to respirable Silica (Quartz): The employer is failing to reduce employee exposure to respirable crystalline Silica (Quartz) where feasible administrative or engineering controls are not implemented to reduce employee exposure(s). On or about 09/13/2016 an employee who performed concrete chipping activities with chipping hammers at the Third Street Bridge Viaduct project in St. Louis, Missouri and who was equipped with full face respirator was exposed to a time weighted average (TWA) of 27.00 mppcf. The permissible exposure limit (PEL) for Crystalline Silica in this case, is 21.27 mppcf. The severity of the exposure was calculated to be 1.26. This condition exposed the employee to respiratory hazards.
