Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
29 CFR 1910.5(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to crushing injuries while standing behind a vehicle, and guiding the driver up the driveway. A.Worksite. The employer did not instruct each employee in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to his work environment, in that employees had not been trained regarding the hazards associated with equipment backing procedures, such as but not limited to, both driver and guides not maintaining visual contact with one another during backing operation with movement being stopped if visual contact is lost. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO TRAINED ALL GUIDES AND DRIVERS ON PROPER DRIVING TECHNIQUES, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON BACKING."
