Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.333(a)(1): "Deenergized parts." Live parts to which an employee may be exposed shall be deenergized before the employee works on or near them, unless the employer can demonstrate that deenergizing introduces additional or increased hazards or is infeasible due to equipment design or operational limitations. Live parts that operate at less than 50 volts to ground need not be deenergized if there will be no increased exposure to electrical burns or to explosion due to electric arcs. (A) Live parts to which an employee may be exposed were not deenergized or other authorized means accomplished before the employee worked on or near them or as required: On or about 6/15/2016 in room 298 at 4300 Snapfinger Wood, Decatur, GA: Where employee(s) were removing and replacing wall mounted air conditioner units rated 240 volts AC, they were not provided specific written energy control procedures. On or about 6/9/2016 an employee was fatally injured while performing this task without properly de-energizing the unit's electrical circuit. The employer failed to ensure electrical circuits were deenergized before air conditioner repair work was done.
