Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about 10/23/00, employees were exposed to the hazard of a chemical reaction which could generate poisonous gases from storage of incompatible chemicals in the same area. A five gallon pail of Rochester Midland F-182A Chlorinated High Foaming Cleaner was stored next to a one gallon container and smaller spray bottle of Rochester Midland Super Lime Sol (contains 56phosphoric acid). Mixture of these two chemicals would create chlorine gas. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to segregate incompatible chemicals into separate storage areas.e
