Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling while moving material in the racking system: (a) Location - Warehouse MOD #14, 90 Salem Road, Billerica, MA: Employees standing on a wood pallet attached to the forks of an industrial truck, were exposed to a fall of approximately 18 feet while moving material in an elevated storage rack system from one pallet to another. Feasible methods of abatement include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Utilize platforms designed for use in elevating personnel with forktrucks that meet the requirement set forth on ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993. 2. Train all employees on the proper application of safety platforms as well as the fall hazards associated with their use.
