Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Location - Job site: An employee was exposed to the hazard of being seriously burned while using a Bobcat 873 to remove hottop from the bed of a dump truck. Among other methods feasible, abatement methods include: 1. Assure that the operator is properly licensed and trained on the safe operation of a Bobcat 873. 2. Follow manufacturers recommended guidelines for safe operation of this type of machine which states, "Do Not Travel or Turn With The Lift Arms Up". 3. Develop and implement company policy which prohibits employees from unloading hottop from the top of dump trucks.
