Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) On or about August 7, 1998, at the employer's facility in Cando, North Dakota, employees of Integra Castings USA L.L.C. who were working on the furnace deck were exposed to the hazards associated with molten metal that escaped the furnace due to an explosion within the furnace vessel. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to prevent this hazardous condition is to develop and implement a comprehensive method of scrap metal inspection that would ensure the detection and removal of any moisture-containing materials prior to materials being placed in furnace units. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement Certification Letter").tion
