29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. On or about 29 January 2016, and at times prior thereto, employees utilized various drill press models and bandsaw throughout the plant, which did not protect or guard the moving parts of the machines during operation, exposing the workers using those machines to amputation and caught in hazards. A) Layout Area: An Azuma AMK-14 Drill Press and a second unidentified drill press were being used to drill metal pieces without guarding of the rotating drill bit. B) Assembly Area: A pedestal Jet Drill Press was being used on metal pieces without guarding of the rotating drill bit. C) Maintenance Shop: A pedestal Dayton 16 Inch Drill Press was being used without guarding of the rotating drill bit. D) Layout Area: Two Marvel band saws were being used to cut metal pieces without the exposed portion of the blades being guarded between the bottom of the guard and the top of the piece being cut.
