Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical hard to employees in that employees were exposed to an avalanche in an open bulldozer without making a proper hazard assessment. Snow removal equipment working in a know avalanche area did not have enclosed roll-over cabs, sufficient to protect the operator from ice and snow incurred injuries. Equipment operators had not received specialized training involving avalanche hazards, or snow removal protocols. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: a.Provide snow removal equipment with enclosed roll-over cabs. b.Provide specialized training and practice in snow removal protocols. c.Cease snow removal operations until equipment is properly outfitted.
