Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by moving parts of amusement rides: a.On or about October 27, 1996 at the Pensacola, Florida Fairgrounds, employees were exposed to being struck by gondolas when they entered the ramp area while The Giant Gondola Wheel was in motion. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop, implement and enforce safety procedures for entering the ramp area. Employees should be trained in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F770-93, Standard Practices for Operation Procedures for Amusement Rides and Devices, Section Four. This procedure should be done on a "ride by ride" basis.
