Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees exposed to fall hazards when performing work on advertising bulletin boards, in that employees attached their lifeline to the ladder they were using and were not secured above the point of operation to an anchorage or structural member capable of supporting a minimum dead weight of 5400 pounds, on or about July 18, 1991. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to run a safety cable near the top of, and attached to the permanent structure of the bulletin board or use safety nets where the use of safety lines and belts are impractical.
