Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of a fall from a self-propelled aerial work platform: (a) Location - Grocery area: On or about 8/24/01, employees were exposed to a fall of six and one-half feet from a Bandit scissors lift #3020 supplied by Demoulas Market Basket Inc. which was damaged. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is inspect the scissors lift as required by ANSI A92.6-1979 Section 12.1, which states that the scissors list needs to be inspected as per the operating manual, and make repairs including replacing the broken pin and fixing the guardrail on the far end so that it can extend up to 42 inches, as required by ANSI A92.6-1979 Section 5.1.ion
