Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to serious crushing hazards during the rotation of the ten ton steel tank and serious fall hazards while tack welding the legs onto the top of the twelve foot in diameter tank. Shop: Employees were exposed to serious crushing hazards while removing the support brackets in preparation for tank rotation. Feasible and useful methods to correct the hazards among other methods are as follows: 1)Conduct a job Hazard Analysis prior to beginning operations on oversized tanks to as certain fall potential hazards and resolve them prior to commencing operations. 2)Conduct thorough training for all the employees involved in tank construction prior to starting the job to ensure they understand the hazards involved and their job tasks. 3)Provide fall protection for the employees required to stand on top of the tank.
