Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught and crushed under a falling clam shell bucket: A- State Road 25, Ogeechee River Bridge - The clam shell bucket on the "American" crane #7260 was landed on unstable wood cribbing and positioned on a sloped/eneven surface, causing the bucket to fall on an employee attempting to take measurements of the bucket. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to inspect the ground where the load is to be placed, to ensure it is stable and level and to ensure loads are safely landed before tension is released on the crane running rope.ng
