Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to: Serious fall injuries while washing windows on the outside of a ten story office building using a Sky-Genie Chair Board System and safety line with lanyard and safety belt that was not attached to a substantial member of the structure nor was the safety line attached to a separate structured member (a) Support System and life line was attached to the feet of a carrier air conditioner unit that was not bolted to the roof. (b) Support System and life line was attached to the skylight on the roof. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to connect the support systems to a structural member of the building and the life lines to separate structural members of this building.
