Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNCLASS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from ladders: (a) Location - Seventh floor of penthouse, mechanical room, 9 Cambridge Center, Cambridge, MA: On or about 3/6/04, employees were exposed to a fall hazard of more than 10 feet while working from a step ladder that was placed on top of the #1 return air fan housing to reach the ceiling area. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable to correct this hazard includes, but are not limited to: a. Utilize an extension ladder to reach areas above existing utilities. b. Train all employees in proper ladder use. c. Use a portable reinforced plastic ladder in accordance with ANSI A14.5.2000.
