Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) O'Brien-Newark CoGen Plant Employees exposed to the hazard of fire/smoke, for a period of 5 days, due to the sprinkler system being shut down, were not evacuated or protected by an approved Fire Watch, after the first four (4) hours that the sprinkler was down, as required by National Fire Protection Association, NFPA 101, Sect. 31-1.3.6. Establishment of an approved fire watch during fire sprinkler shut down beyond 4 hours is one feasible and acceptable method of abatement. Violation occurred on or about 12/20/92 through 12/25/92
