Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of during an accidental anhydrous ammonia release. On or about 06/13/94, employees were exposed to an anhydrous ammonia release during maintenance. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS..." 1. Install a system that will automatically separate oil from liquid ammonia. 2. Install a valve to open and close the ammonia line that will eliminate the possibility of turning the valve more than a quarter of a turn.
