Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about 12/7/89 employees operating hoists such as Dayton 2-Ton hoist No. 12 were exposed to the hazards of being struck by objects being lifted such as upper mold halves due to the failure of the hoists or their components including hoist chains and hooks. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is the extablishment of a frequent inspection program, lubrication program, and preventative maintenance inspection of hooks and load bearing chains and lubrication of all moving parts for which lubrication is specified (including load bearing chains).
