Among other methods, one feasible and useful method to correct this hazard is to develop, implement and enforce a work rule which requires the attachment of the boring machine to the base tracks with roller hooks as required by the manufacturers installation/operation manual and as stipulated in American National Standard Institute B11.8 "Safety Requirements for Construction, Care, Use of Drilling, Milling, and Boring Machines, 1983 as follows: ANSI B11.8 Section 3.2.4 Hazards to Personnel Associated with Tipping or Falling Machines. The manufacturer shall indicate in the installation instructions the conditions under which the machine should be secured to the floor or foundation.
