Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazards of fire and explosion resulting from blowout conditions which occurred at the H.J. Schorp Lease number 1, Pearsall Field, LaSalle County, approximately sixteen (16) miles northeast of Cotulla Texas 78014 on BDK Drilling Company rig number 10. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be installation of a stripper rubber seal on the bottom of the drive bushing in the rotating head as specified on page 44, 3.13 Rule 13, paragraph (b), sub-paragraph (1), Texas Railroad Commission "Statewide Rules for Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Operations."
