Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The employer did not protect employee(s) from the recognized hazard of electrical shock in that adequate precautions were not taken to prevent employee(s) engaged in line-clearing operations at 14147 Gerry Krammer Rd, Gonzales, LA, on or about April 13, 1993, from making contact with a 14, 400 volt AC power line while using a conductive (aluminum handle) pole pruner. The employer could have protected his employees by assuring line clearance tree trimmers not approach or bring conductive tools closer than two feet to any circuit carrying form 2.1 KV to 15 KV (with greater separation for higher voltages), or by other effective means.
