Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees were exposed to the hazard of fire or explosion when using combustible flammable liquids to ignite wood in a 55 gallon drum for cleaning grease from gas burners, outside the north side of the building on March 13, 1987. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to use steam or pressure cleaning equipment to clean grease from gas burners at pressure and temperatures recommended by the manufacturer.
