One feasible and acceptable abatement method among others to correct this hazard is: I) Coordinate work which requires use of the crane with other job activities; to keep one area or direction clean of employee(s) for use by the crane when swinging (flying) or suspending loads. II) Install an audible alarm distinguishable from the surrounding noises, that could be used by the crane operator to warn employees when he is preparing to swing a load. III) Require crane signalmen (flagman) to locate themselves so they can be seen by the crane operator at all times. Also, require they be located so they can visually see, at all times, the areas affected by the swinging (flying) and suspended loads. IV) Place barricades, safety ribbon and, or warning signs around areas of crane activity to prevent employee(s) from entering where loads are being moved or suspended overhead: Reference: 1926.550(a)(1) - Manufacturers operating procedures 1926.550(b)(2) - ANSI B30.5-1968 - Section 5-3.2(f) 1926.700(a) - ANSI A10-9-1970-Section 6.4.6.
