29 CFR 1915.56(e): Arc welding and cutting operations were not shielded by noncombustible or flameproof screens to protect employees in the vicinity from the direct rays of the arc. a) Center of Pipe Shop: Three employees were observed sitting on the floor and welding. There were only two welding screens in the area and they were not positioned to protect any employees, at least 20 employees were observed working or walking by the area. b) Pipe Shop Welding Room: Several employees were observed arc welding at welding stations and the few screens in the room were not positioned to prevent nearby employees from the direct rays of the arc.
