Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment or a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physcial harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Falling loads in that slings used for hoisting crates of glass were too long for the size of the crates being lifted resulting in the angle between the legs of the sling and the top of the crate being too great to develop adequate force on the ends of the crate to bite into the ends. On or about October 23, 1985. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use slings of shorter length compatible with crate size.
