Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The recognized hazard of a potentially oxygen deficient and/or explosive atmosphere while working in a confined space. On or about August 23, 1990, two outside contractors had entered, and one employee was in the process of entering a steel vessel, approximately 8 feet in diameter and 24 feet in length. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to implement and enforce the company's confined space entry/work policy at this (Wichita Falls) plant and to expand said policy to include the direct control (task and schedule) of the company.
