Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by hose on discharge end of concrete pumper: a) Building #1, 5th Floor - employees engaged in concrete work were exposed to being struck by unsecured hose used to discharge concrete. The hose was laying on 55 gallon drum while employees were filling wheel barrel with concrete. Employees were exposed to the hazard of being knocked off opensided floor approximately 50 feet above the ground. Observed 3/30/88. *Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the manufacturer's operating instructions when operating concrete pumper, which includes the setup, pumping and cleaning of concrete lines.
