Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003A Hazard:
Section (5)(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards when using powered industrial equipment in a hazardous atmosphere: a) In Shop 4 (the new paint area), on August 20, 2014, employees used a MEC electric powered scissor lift Model ZM2633ES within 5 feet of a tank while painting it where flammable vapors were present including MEK, Xylene, Aliphatic Hydrocarbon solvent, Ethyl benzene, Methyl n-Propyl Ketone. The unit is not classified as intrinsically safe nor explosion proof. Note: Abatement certification AND documentation are required for this item.
