Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazard while working from a platform raised greater than six feet by a forklift. (a) Location - Facility: On or about 11/12/97, the plant manager was observed lifting an employee up to a 9-12 foot roof in an unsecured trash bin on the forks of a forktruck without fall protection. (b) Location - Facility: On or about 02/10/98, an employee lifted an individual standing on a pallet to 8 feet above the ground using the forks of a forktruck without fall protection. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1. Provide an extension ladder for the employee's use. 2. Provide a secured platform and proper fall protection for the employees.
