North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical hazards: a) Migrant labor camp located at 46 Junius Lucas Rd. in Faison- Employer failed to provide a temporary migrant labor camp which was free from electrical hazards in that: 1) A temporary drop cord was being used to provide electricity to a washing machine which was located outside. This cord was running through a window and plugged into an outlet without ground fault protection. Additionally, the cord was running along the ground in a wet location and was in no way protected from vehicular or foot traffic. 2) The electrical outlet in the wooden pump house was not covered or ground fault protected and was in a damp location with a cement floor. Abatement Notice: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to eliminate the use of all temporary wiring, install washing machines IAW manufacturer's recommendations as well as local building code, and ensure that all electrical wiring meets National Electric code and all state and local codes.
