Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)Parking lot and Garage- Employees operated a John Deere backhoe model-710C. Nuts and bolts were modified and used as pins for the rear shovel and out rigger, instead of the pins originally provided by the manufacturer to secure the shovel and out rigger. AMOUNT OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS: 1.To follow Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)"Safety Manual for operating and Maintenance Personnel" which requires that damaged and missing parts are to be repaired or replaced, and 2.To follow the Manufacturers Operator Manual by using only service parts meeting manufacturer specifications, and 3.To train operators and maintenance personnel to inspect equipment for defects and to complete service and repairs before equipment is placed back in service.
