Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from a height of 7 stories high: On or about 01/09/2007, an employee was exposed to the hazard of falling from a seventh floor after opening the elevator doors. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and useful method to prevent this hazard from occurring again is for the employer to develop an elevator tracking program in accordance with the provision of the Elevator Industry Field Employees' Safety Handbook which would ensure the location of each elevator is known during construction by each working employees. IN THE ALTERNATIVE: 29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface having an unprotected side or edge which was 6 or more feet (1.8 m) above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of a guardrail system, a safety net system, or a personal fall arrest system: On or about 01/09/2007, an employee was exposed to the hazard of falling from a seventh floor after opening the elevator doors. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
