Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employee in that employees were exposed to: (a) A crushing hazard from upset machinery, and falling loads if a wedged button fails. (b) A crushing hazard from a boom collapse due to a missing boom stop. (c) A crushing hazard from falling trees when trees are uprooted by tightening and swinging the guy line while skidding. One feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to use a three tuck eye and a shackle at the point of attachment and to replace the missing boom stop. Remove all trees that interfere with the proper alignment, placement or tightening of the guylines.g
