Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed/struck by collapsing roof trusses due to inadequate bracing techniques. a- 320 Franklin Boulevard, Somerset NJ, Eternal Life Christian Church - Employees engaged in roof truss installation were exposed to injury from being struck by the collapsing truss components as the trusses were not stabilized with adequate temporary bracing. Condition noted on March 1, 2003. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to: 1. Follow the industry standard, ANSI/TPI 1-2002 to provide temporary bracing to the trusses during erection. 2. Utilize the recommendations of the Truss Plate Institute contained in the HIB- 91 Booklet Commentary and Recommendations for Handling, Installing, & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses, HIB-91. 3. Follow the shop drawings from the truss manufacturer that indicates that temporary bracing were necessary.
