Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevated surfaces: a)Plant Storage Mezzanine above maintenance shop: An industrial truck was used to raise employees. The employees were standing on an open sided platform not provided with hand rails. They were not protected from the hazard of falling to the concrete floor below, on or about 12/01/97. Abatement note: One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard, is to provide a "safety platform" properly secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks as stipulated in ANSI B56.1-1975, Part III - Section 513, or equivalent protection.
