Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads: (a)Resin plant, second floor; A 1100 pound "Super Sack" load of Para tertiary butylphenol (PTBP) was carried and suspended over the head and upper body of a kettleman helper while the employee hit the bottom and sides of the sack in order to dislodge adhered material that would not freely flow into Kettle No. 2 being charged. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to contact the supplier of PTBP requesting that the product be supplied in a form that facilitates flow of material.
