Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to excessive heat: On or about November 14, 2019, at the Metals Recovery Systems (MRS) building located at 4400 S State Road 7, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33314, employees engaged in ash build-up cleaning activities were exposed to the hazard of high indoor ambient temperatures, which produced Wet Bulb Globe Temperatures (WBGT) ranging from 76.40 degrees Fahrenheit to 77.10 degrees Fahrenheit which exceeded the action level of 69.3 degrees Fahrenheit for unacclimated workers and the TLV of 76.60 degrees Fahrenheit for acclimated workers. Such exposures may lead to the development of serious heat-related illnesses such as, but not limited to, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and death.
